● Set, Encourage and Monitor Large Quantities of Extensive Reading

- Ls need to read many books in order to gain control of the high frequency words of English, preferably at the rate of a graded reader every one or two weeks.

(자주 나오는 단어라는 것은 중요하기 때문이다.)

- Techniques and procedures that can be used to motivate Ls

- R should be the main activity and other activities should occupy only a very small proportion of the time

(학습자들이 스스로 알아내는 시간이 더 중요하기 때문에 활동이 큰 시간을 잡아먹어서는 안 된다.)

- Ls are simply required to fill out a short record form indicating the name of the book they have just read, its level, the date, how long it took read, and a brief comment on the quality of the book

위의 설명의 예시이다. 하지만 이건 하나의 type이기 때문에 너무 이 양식에 신경쓰지 않아도 된다. 학습자의 수준에 따라 얼마든지 달라져도 된다.

- Short report forms can be printed

- allowing the L and T to see at a glance how much has been read over what period of time.

(시간이 지나면서 읽기 속도나 분량 등을 파악 가능함)

 

● Additional activities to motivate R may take a bit more time

○ Slip of paper in the back of each book: Ls record their opinions of the book

(같은 책을 읽고 다양한 의견이 나올 수 있음을 알기에, 사고를 키울 수 있는 기회가 됨)

○ Oral book reports: present a commentary on a book to the class or a reading group(name of the book, type of the sotry, setting, enjoyable or not, etc.)

(수업이나 그룹에서 '~을 읽었다'라고 발표하는 것으로, 책을 소개하는 발표를 진행한다.)

○ Discussion groups: prepare oral book report or a written review to present to others. Decided what book they will discuss at their next meeting

(미리 자신이 book report나 review를 생각해 오곤, 모여서 자신의 의견을 교류함

양식은 크게 중요하지 않고, 자신의 생각 변화(확장형 사고)가 가장 중요함)
