What makes a good life? Lessons from the longest study on happiness

What keeps us happy and healthy as we go through life? If you think it's fame and money, you're not alone – but, according to psychiatrist Robert Waldinger, you're mistaken. As the director of a 75-year-old study on adult development, Waldinger has unpre

1. Summary

When we think about where we put our time and energy, we got to realize most of our life goal is becoming rich, followed by reputation, which we put ourselves harder to achieve our dream.

We think this is a good life and try to get it, but it's impossible we all know.

The most important lession to make us successful is 'remember the past', which is why we forget a vast of things in our way to success.

Harvard made a research about adults' lives, and even their children. Most of they went to college, got works, but surprisingly they all made very different results.

And the result of this study is 'Good relationships keep us happier and happier'.

  1. The more social connections we have, the happier we are mentally and physically.

Loneliness is very toxic, making us feel isolated, and find ourselves less happy, leads our health decline, and our lives become shorten. But sadly, one-fifth feels lonely in America.

  2. Number < Quality

good relationships make us feel warm.

If people have good relationships, those in their 50s feel they are the happiest, and 80s feel physically unhealthy, but healthy in mental.

  3. Good relationships are important because we are humans.

Those who are the happiest after their retirement is those who made good relationships through hard work, through family, friends, colleagues, etc.

2. Opinion

I love the way of presenting, asking questions to audience to make them think themselves.

I got to think deeply about my social relationships, friends, family, and my boyfriend, and etc.

There were more than I thought, but the most precious peple in my boundaries were only around fifteen maybe.

What is a good life, and what is my life goal? Where am I going to? What am I pursuing?

There were many questions all around, most of which were those I want to get their answers during my vacation(In reality, I always get tired of translating, though).

Well, I just heard that humans are lonely animals in its original status. Relationships are the very things to fill those gaps I suppose. There will be more opportunities for me to make relationships with others.

I should try to meet as many people as I can, and have relations with those who I think are necessary and useful.
