1. would

◎ would : ~할거야, ~하면 좋겠다

◎ wouldn't: ~하지 않을 거야

- when we imagine a situation or action (= we think of something that is not real)

우리가 상황이나 행동을 상상할 때 = 실제가 아닌 일을 생각할 때

▶ 현재 사실의 반대상황을 가정하는 '가정법 과거' 표현과 연결

It would be nice to buy a new car, but we can't afford it. (~, if I could afford it)

새 차를 사면 좋을 것 같지만, 그런데 우리는 살 수 없어.

A) Shall I tell Chris what happened? 일어났던 일들에 대해 크리스에게 말할까?

B) No, I wouldn't say anything. (= I wouldn't say anything if I were you)

아니, (내가 너였다면) 난 아무 말도 하지 않을 거야.

 

 

2. will / would

I'll call Lisa. I have her phone number.

내가 리사에게 전화를 할게. 난 리사의 휴대폰 전화번호가 있어.

I'd call Lisa, but I don't have her phone number. (so I can't call her) = ~, if I had her number.

난 리사에게 전화를 하고 싶지만, 전화번호가 없어. (그래서 전화를 할 수가 없어.)

 

3. would have p.p : (과거에) ~했을 것이다 / ~했을 텐데 (실제로 하지 않음)

wouldn't have p.p : (과거에) ~하지 않았을 것이다 (실제로 일어나지 않았음)

: when we imagine something that didn't happen in the past

과거에 일어나지 않은 것을 상상할 때 사용

▶ 과거 사실의 반대상황을 가정하는 '가정법 과거완료' 표현과 연결

ex) It's a shame you didn't see the film. You would have liked it.너가 그 영화를 보지 않았다니 안타깝다. 너는 그걸 좋아했을 텐데.ex) I didn't tell Sam what happened. He wouldn't have been pleased.난 샘에게 무슨 일이 일어났는지 말하지 않았다. 그는 좋아하지 않았을 것이다.

 

 

3. will / won't의 과거 would / wouldn't

I'll call you on Sunday. → Tom said he would call me on Sunday.I promise I won't be late. → Amy promised that she wouldn't be late.

 

◎ would: 과거에 ~하곤 했다

: to talk about things that happened regularly in the past (과거에 주기적으로 일어났던 일)

ex) Whenever Richard was angry, he would/used to walk out of the room.

리처드가 화가 날 때면, 그는 방 밖으로 나가곤 했다.

◎ wouldn't: 과거에 ~하기를 거절했다: he/she refused to do it

ex) I tried to warn him, but he wouldn't listen to me. (= he refused to listen)

난 그에게 경고를 하려고 했지만, 그는 내 말을 듣기를 거절했다.

ex) The car wouldn't stop. (= it refused to stop)

차는 멈추지 않았다.

○ used to: 현재는 하지 X
